hi my name is rick and this is my first time on your forum, thank you for having it. i'm try to find out the value of a pistol my boss's grandfather bought in 1917. he put the new pistol with it's cleaning brush in it's box in a bank bag and it's been in a bank vault ever since.when he showed it to me he said" this is the fourth time its been opened. there is a tube off thin paper around the cleaning brush, and the box is as new looking as the gun. except the white label and brush wrap have a tan tinge. it' a s&w .32 double action 5th model 3 inch barrel nickel finish with white grips. i was told these were made from 1909 to 1919, there's a date stamped on the box with 1917 year, the serial number is also on the box #31639X that puts it in the middle of the series. i'm not used to guns that are this rich. and i need help to figure out what it's worth so i can put it in the classifieds thanks

Welcome to the Forum. If you can post some pictures of the gun & box, etc. we can give you a better opinion on value. These are not rare guns, but apparently what you may have here is "condition" which dictates the bottom line on gun values. If it is, in fact, 100% "new in the box" condition, with all the tools, and factory pearl grips, it would be hard to duplicate for less than $1,000, IMHO.
