I realize this is the wrong place for this but ask that if you know anything about Nitro Hunter shot guns or can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Friend just acauired 2 12GA, Nitro Hunter shotguns. Looks like the Nitro Hunter was plated on the side. Both say on top of barrel by the breech "12GA CHOKE".

Any infor is appreciated.
Good Luck,
Bill H

Hi, AirPark:
In the late 1950s I owned a 12ga. Double Barrel Shotgun stamped "Hunter Arms". I was informed that the weapon was made by "L.C. Smith".

if memory is correct this shotgun is neither the leFevber (?spelling)Nirto Special, nor the LC Smith Hunter. If I recall correctly it is in similar or lower in value to the old Crescent/Fulsom shotguns of comparable grade. Got a single shot 12ga Nitro somewhere that is one of my wife's family guns, just a good decent single, meant for a hard working man, that couldn't afford anything fancier.

Jimmyj, you have it backwards, the LC Smith shotguns were made by Hunter Arms.

Lefever was bought out by Ithaca and seperate from L.C. Smith.
Lefever was famous for their taper choke, among many other patents.

True, but don't confuse Nitro Special with Nitro Hunter. Though I'm sure that is why the Nitro Hunter name was chosen.

Nitro Hunter was a model name for a shotgun made by H&D Folsum Arms Co. for the Belnap Hardware Co. of Louisville, KY. Circa 1900

I have my Grand Father's dbl 12, outside hammers. It is a Hunter, but says L.C. Smith on it also. Long ago someone told me Smith sold the company to Hunter and insisted the name L.C. Smith always be on the guns also.

Made in 1910 per L.C. Smith Collector's Assoc.

The best site for info on double shotguns is www.doublegunshop.com. Just as the folks on this site know Smiths, those guys know their shotguns and will be happy to advise you about yours.
