Default Please educate me

Being new to the S&W addiction, I have purchased a few of the new firearms. Mod 57, 586, 19comp. I've come across this S&W at a local auction house and have attached pictures. The auction house doesn't know the model or caliber. Can someone please give me any information? Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum. The revolver is a S&W .44 Double Action 1st model No. 3 New Model Navy. Caliber is .44S&W, an obsolete blackpowder round. The gun is considered an antique by the BATF and can be bought & sold w/o Fed. Transfer paperwork., if the auction is in the USA. The serial number, 1020, is listed in the manufacturing logs as made July 6, 1881. If the gun is mechanically sound I would estimate auction price at approx. $1500-$1800 range. Ed

I would never have guessed that value. Thanks for the info. I'll need to go inspect it next week.
