Default .38 DA Perfected at show

I wanted to give y'all notice. I saw a very nice .38 DA Perfected at a show yesterday in Bossier City, LA. It had very little blue wear, the owner said it was from 1917. It had the 3.5" barrel, and wood grips that definitely look original. The price tag was 750. If I was a Louisiana resident, it would be mine now. The show ends today at 4. I hope one of you can get it.

Jimmy, The 38 Perfected was made from 1909 to 1920, so none are antiques.

For firearms, the Federal Gov't. has declared 1898 the cut off for antique status. Anything after is considered a "modern" gun and requires a 4473 for purchase and dealer transfer across state lines.

This is the reason and incentive to get a "C&R" license. A Curio and Relic FFL (03 FFL). If the gun is more than 50 years old it can be bought with a C&R License and carried out. It can also allow you to order from the various internet sources and have the gun sent directly to your address. You are required to maintain a "Bound Book" of all purchases and disposals, but it clearly states on the application and on the license you are not allowed to engage in the "Business" of buying and selling firearms.

Default Blued

I know the Blued guns are worth more but isn't $750 a bit pricey for one of these? Especially for the Southern States?
California? For sure but I thought you could get one of these for $350-$500 East of the Colorado river... At least that's the claim on this forum.

I think $350 would be a bargain if in nice shape I have not seen one around here (middle Tennessee area) for several years. I in fact have the last one, or the only I have seen around here didn't even know what it was at first with Ivory grips none the less. That being said $750 would probably cause me to walk...

For reasons lost to history, the foreign market for the 38 Perfected and the 38 Single Action, 3rd Model (1891) revolvers were very strong. Notes collected from Roy Jinks, Jim Supica, and others indicate that large amounts of these two models went to the European and South American export market.

A search of completed auctions on Gunbroker shows only three sold in the last two months. Two sold and one did not. The ones that sold were a blued example that sold for $850 and a second nickel sold for $705 with a missing cylinder latch. The third gun did not sell because the seller had it listed for $5995. There are two active listings for this model as well.

Default Collection value

I think it’s time to reassess our collections. Prices are much higher now. However, I still would not pay that much. Sort of like paying $200 for 1000 small pistol primers. Probably a good time to sell some off though.
