I have another off-the-wall question. For me much of the pleasure of firearms is understanding the designs of each gun and its history. I like to look up the patents associated with each arm and see for myself what the designer had in mind when the patent was applied for. S&W patents are well known and pretty easy to come by. I have successfully located all the associated patents but one
.
Smith & Wesson New Departure Safety Hammerless 38 S&W, 4th Model (1898-1907). This revolver uses a very uniquely designed cylinder stop. See image below. I think it is very interesting in how the split spring attached to the cylinder stop and functions off the hammer.
Can someone tell me the patent number or date received for the patent covering this combination cylinder stop / split spring?
Thank you!
