My new S&W .38 Perfected
I know it's not a swing-out cylinder.
Maybe this should go in the antique forum, but it does have the 5 screws and the internals of a hand ejector, and technically, it's not an antique.
Anyhow, just wanted to share because I have been pleasantly surprised by this little revolver. The finish is rough, and it has been carried in a holster so long that the end of the barrel on one side has worn down, but wow, this thing is accurate. Not sure if the original owner filed the front site down or if that is also holster wear, but it hits at point of aim at 10 yards, every time.
I have several .38s and .32s break open pocket guns but after going through this one, I feel like it could be counted on as well as any of my old hand ejectors. I gave $125.00 for it, and even with the rough finish I feel like it was a good deal.

Probably will be moved to the antique section since it is not a hand ejector.
Hard to imagine a functioning 100+ year old S&W that would not be worth at least $125.
I think you did good.

Yes, the antique area is more appropriate even though it is not an antique. Perfected models are uncommon and seldom seen, at least by me. I have little firsthand knowledge about them, but I remember reading that many, maybe most, were exported.

Yeah, what’s cool about this model is it uses .32 hand ejector internals.
It’s kind of a hybrid. Or Frankenstein, if you prefer lol

I keep pretty close track of prices realized on line and the Perfected is going for a median of $643 with a low of $278 and a high of $1,682.
You done good!

Not a thing wrong with a cute little shooter for a buck and a quarter.

Yeah, when I saw it on the shelf at the pawn shop, I thought it was just another break top. Then I noticed the thumb release and said wth. A quick google search is where I learned it was a mixture of top break and hand ejector. I figured it was worth the prices just for the oddity of it. And today I found out it’s a shooter too. That was a nice surprise.
I read the myth is that they were marketed to police departments that were accustomed to the old break tops but with this one it was more reliable and harder to open the action while in a tussle with a crook.
Neat little guns

Here is a closer pic of the thumb release.
Works better than you would think with the thumb and top latch together.

Looks like a little oil and a soft cloth would make it look even better
