1st Model of 91 SS Target Pistol, .32 S&W, 6 inch barrel
My latest single shot target pistol, 1st Model of 91, nickel with black hard rubber target grips, 32 S&W with a six inch barrel lettered as being correct. It was shipped in May of 1893 to Folsom Arms Company in New York, New York as a single gun shipment & was clearly marked as being a .32 single shot in the records. It is all matching numbers also.

Count your blessings----very slowly---and often.
I too have a .32 SS---8"--------really nice, if you don't count it lettering as a 10" .22.

It is nickel, mirror like finish, photo is of the best side, other side has blemishing just in front of the top of the grips. This will probably be my only gun I will never shoot.

Congrats on that find.
A year or two back I lucked into a 6", 38 S&W. blue finish, in outstanding condition. It is an all matching numbered specimen with the serial number listed in Neal & Jinks.

6 Inch 1891
I reread the S&W History Letter, it appears that although they were first sold in 1891 as revolvers & cased sets, selling as single shots only started in 1893, which would make this a first year single shot. Inside the barrel's left "ear" is stamped the letter "C", I asked Roy Jinks about it, he said he had only ever seen them on cased sets, but has never seen anything to support that as the reason why. The company that it was shipped to, Folsom Arms Co. in New york City, was an arms manfacturer that produced firearms under well over a hundred different brands. One can only guess why a rival maker would order one from S&W, especially in a single shot configuration.

1891 1st model .38 S&W single shot 6" blue
See this, closely associated, thread on 1891 revolvers. My 6", .38 S&W, 1891 first model is posted there at #37, too. Sal Raimondi, Sr.
Why is the 38 Smith & Wesson Single Action, 3rd Model (Model of 1891) So Scarce?
1891, 1st model in .38 S&W, 6" barrel. Exceptional condition.
Serial Number 14164 is listed in Neal & Jinks as one of the few .38 S&Ws. and it's a 6", even better.

"C"
Photo of the "C" stamp. Does anyone else have one on their revolver or pistol?
