I'll apologize for the quality of these photos, they were sent to me via email, and all I have right now...
Here's a story.
In the late 1800's, early 1900's, my dad's grandfather co-owned a general store in a little farm town in Illinois.
Last week, I was telling my brother about the sweet little Model 30 I just bought, and he said I should get the old Devine and Skeels "Counter Gun" from my other brother...I didn't even know this existed.
You can probably imagine how excited I was when he said it was a S&W, 5 shot, top break! These are the photos he sent.
If you can't make it out, the serial number is 406861, and on the side is 32 S&W CTGE.
I would like any and all info you fine folks can share on this old gem. I'm about peeing my pants to think that this has been in my family all these years!
I'll see it in person on the 14th, will get better photos then...thanks!

Unfortunately I don't think it is a Smith & Wesson. The serial number is too high for any of the .32 Double Action S&W top-breaks.
It is chambered for the .32 S&W cartridge, but probably is a H&R or one of the other look-alikes.
When you get to examine it closer, let us know what it says on the top of the barrel.

Thanks Dean. It does have 32 S&W CTGE right over the hinge on the barrel. Am I to look on the actual top?

Yes, on top of the rib that runs the length of the barrel behind the front sight.

Thanks again, I'll do that...wish it was a Smith, but still a neat little piece of history for me.

I hope you enjoy your family pistol for many many years, and pass it on to the next generation, along with as much written documentation as you can put together.
Write out anything you know about it and keep it with that fina family heirloom. I tdoesn't matter who made it, it's the history that is important to your family.
Enjoy

Sorry, that's definately not a Smith & Wesson revolver. S&W never marked any .32 DAs with the caliber in that location, also the frame shape is incorrect for a S&W. It's probably an H&R.

I HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. I thought I had a S&W when, in fact, I had an Otis Smith Revolver....

Wow! Fantastic photo collage!
Hey, it's all good...still a bit of my family history, planning on getting some photos of this little shooter with the 1910 calendar plate from the old mercantile when my brother brings it on the 14th.
Thanks for all the replies gang!
