Hi all, I have a 38 double action I would like to move on to a new home but dont really have a good idea of value...I am more of a post WWII guy....I have a factory letter on it which states its a .38 double action fourth model, shipped, May, 1895, 38 S&W, 5', blue with checked walnut grips. I am thinking it was refinished wayyyyy back, and the grips arent the originals, but nice none the less and fit perfectly...bore is good with what looks like one small area of slight pitting... but kinda dark....and the outside is probably 85% (just a guess)...turning patina with some slight, slight pitting....I have fired it, all 5 shells went bang. Look at the pics and let me know what ya think PLEASE!!!!

My guestimate on value is about $250, plus or minus $25, as is. It has a couple of plus factors (1) 5 inch barrel, and (2) being lettered as shipped with checkered waknut grips in 1895, seldom seen grips for a .38DA. Negative factor is the ugly homemade grips now on the gun. Throw them away and put on some hard rubber grips, until you can find a pair of checkered walnut grips. Add $100 to the value if you get the walnuts.
