Hi i just picked this one up tonite can anybody tell me if this one here is the first Model or the Second Model in the book they say it came with hard rubber grips but this one has the S&W Pearlies on it. I'm sure the grips are worth more then the gun i paid $200 for it let me know what you think heres a pic of it[IMG:left] [/IMG]

Hello Rigmover,
The barrel latch tells us that it is either a 2nd or a 3rd model. The pinned front sight indicates a 2nd model, but I have seen a few 3rd models with a pinned sight ( usually a special order barrel length). This looks like a standard 3 1/2 inch barrel. The 2nd model 32 safetys were manufactured from 1902 to 1909 and the serial # range runs from about 94400 to 170000. The pearl medallion grips could be special ordered on any Smith of that era. The only way to tell for sure if it came from the factory with pearl medallions is to order a factory letter from Roy Jinks. And last of all, the price paid for those grips these days just about got you the gun free. Good find!

Rigmover: call the police and turn yourself in. You STOLE that gun for that price! Nice find! Those S&W medallion mother of pearl handles are wonderful!
