Here is a nice hammerless I have owned and shot for years. It's a 3rd Model, SN 153995. As you can see, someone scratched the SN on the side plate. It's a 38 S&W.Great bore, and real Mother of Pearl grips. As far as blue????? about 50%.

I load 158 gr. RN lead bullets and 2.8 gr. of UNique. I figure it pushes out the bullet at about 650 f.p.s. At 10 feet, I can get a group of close to six inches. If I pull the trigger back slowly, I can feel and hear the cylinder lock. Then a little pressure on the trigger lets the hammer down. It fits my hand fine, and the recoio is not bad.

Mastering the accurate shooting of a safety hammerless model requires a lot of practice. The two stage action is tricky if you are used to shooting other S&Ws. You should eventually be able to put those 5 shots into a couple of inches at 10 feet. These guns were for personal defense in the home and not for target shooting, but they can last forever, if maintained.

I just posted this the other day, But here is my ? change made in 1891 38S&W, This is from 15 yards, And if I recall, I had to aim about 6" high.
I did the same grouping twice on the same plate.
upper and lower.
Although not POA, But shoots the same each time, with just off the shelf 38S&W ammo.

It is alot of fun to shoot especially when others are watching and wondering what the heck you are shooting.
I wish I had a nice set of pearls like you have!!!!!!
Peter.

Lemon Squeezers are a lot fun and a great collectible. They are also undervalued. I really like them.

I just picked up a 2nd Model Lemon Squeezer at a gunshow this last week-end to join the one I already had. Decent nickel, good grips. I rarely shoot these at any distance beyond 7 yards or so, but they sure are fun! Great topic, guys!
(wish I could do pics, it would be fun to share)

Do you guys shoot handloads or factory ammo in these old revolvers? The reason that I ask is I recently picked up a hammer-type breaktop s/n 156991 in 38 S&W with the red/black grips that I guessimate to be made around 1880 (haven't lettered it yet) and would like to put a few rounds through it.

Sounds like a "BLACK POWDER GUN" be careful with it. Get the D.O.B. before you load it and try shooting it or maybe...."KABOOM".
