Would a gun of this vintage be safe to shoot with factory ammunition? It seems to function and lock up well and has a good bore and chambers. Thank you,
OZ

OZ, Depends. Which 3rd model DA are you talking about? .22? .32? .38? .44? Generally speaking, you can shoot any older S&W in good mechanical condition with standard velocity ammo. currently maufactured, with the exception of early .22RF calibers.

Sorry, it is a .38 s and w. I think it would be kind of a hoot to shoot once in a while. I know factory ammo is kind of weak and would not shoot it enough to reload for.
THANKS

OZ, No problem to shoot that gun with .38S&W rounds. You will be amazed at the accuracy of those older S&Ws.

OZ, round up some factory .38S&W loads and have fun! I came into possession of a pair of the early .38 top breaks (spur trigger version) that I have fired with the factory loads. It is indeed a hoot! In my opinion, the .38 S&W loads are light enough even to shoot in these older guns, and as opoefc said, you will be amazed at how accurate they can be. Nice toys for older boys!
