Default Baby Russian Cylinder Removal

How does one remove the cylinder from a Baby Russian? I got as far as taking out the little blued piece which holds the cylinder in place, but the cylinder won't unscrew counter-clockwise like my later top-breaks and appears to be under some spring tension. I'm assuming this has to do with the different style extractor?

I'm also looking for a set of the plain-checkered grips with the block letter "S&W".

Thanks!

You have to take out the frame hinge screw, then take out the extractor gear then the whole piece will come out as a unit. Baby Russians have a complicated worm gear, that runs the extractor inside the elongated housing under the barrel. make sure you lift the cylinder catch near the barrel latch sometimes they are stuck down.

If I remember correctly (Haven't owned a 1st Model in years..) there is a long thin "catch" in the bottom of the housing for the extractor mechanism. There should be an indent that will allow you to press one end of it and pivot it on its mounting pin and then you can pull the cylinder off.
(Sometimes they are gunked up and you may have to hit it with some solvent to loosen it up.)

I don't think there is any S&W that you have to remove the hinge pin to detach the cylinder.

Aha! You're correct: There's an "Extractor catch" under the extended extractor housing which is part of the barrel, and distinguishes the 1st Model from the 2nd Model. This is hinged on a pin, and pushing the front part releases the the extractor, and thus the cylinder. A very fiddly design, I can see why they changed it.

Removing the hinge pin didn't make sense to me either.
