Pre-14 5 screw (1954) or 14 4 screw (1959)
One of these has to go. Which one would you keep? Pre 14 5 screw (1954) or 14 4 screw (1959) Both guns are in excellant condition. Maybe the 4 screw is more rare?

Neither is rare, but they did make many more 5-screws than 4-screws,therefore the later gun would probably be more difficult to replace in like condition to what you describe. Not a whole lot of difference,if any,in the value. JMO,and worth exactly what you paid for it.

I'd lean toward the 54 vintage gun for two reasons. First, it's the same age as me, and I've got an empty gold box for one of those.

I would like to keep them all.....but I keep running into great vintage 4 and 5 screws and I always went for the 5 screw but latelty there have been many comments about the limited numbers of 4 screw "transitionals" and the comments have been that even though there are fewer 4 screw examples, the 5 screws bring more money. Will they eventually be more desirable?

Well since I am a greedy little duck I would keep both, but although the five screws are uber cool I would have to keep the 54 vintage gun as thats my birth year. Did I mention the five screws are uber cool?

More of a personal research question than anything else.
What are the first three of the serial # on the 4 screw 14, and is it in fact model marked?
Thanks

Serial # 3632XX and "MOD-14" marked. Has a target trigger and standard hammer. Was wearing 1980's speadloader cutout target grips.

I like the 4 screw guns the best. The one with the Bomar rib is a model 14 marked 4 screw. The other is a 4 screw that's not marked that I sold not to long ago.

Thanks, I am trying to get a handle on the serial number range of the 4 screw K frame pre models. I have a couple, the latest is K329511.
