44 Magnum, S130997, with a Story
In 1996, I was very interested in acquiring a 44 Magnum with a serial number in the S130000 range. Although scarce today, about fifteen years ago, very few collectors had ever seen one of these guns. I received a call from my (now) good friend Ray Brazille, who has probably owned and sold more great S&Ws than anyone I know, who said he had two of these guns. Needless to say, I was interested and ended up going to the Tulsa gun show to buy them and pick them up. One of the guns was S130997. It turns out this gun was most likely built in mid-1956, but kept in the factory collection until it was sold in November 1960 to Walter Sanborn of S&W's Sales Department. The gun has seen some use, but is still about 98 percent. Fast forward to around 2005, again at the gun show in Tulsa. Ray Cheely was cleaning out his odds and ends not related to Registered Magnums and offers me four dark blue presentation cases. I bought them and when examing them at home, discover one them (shown below) is serial numbered on the back to S130997. How the 44 Magnum and case became separated no one knows, but they are now back together for good. Happy ending!!!
Bill

Very nice story with a happy ending.
Now you have to find the missing revolvers to fill the three empty presentation boxes!

Bill,
The reunification of revolver and box is just great, not to mention that the revolver is kinda OK looking...
As the great Hannibal Smith would say, "I love it when a plan comes together."
Again, I really appreciate you sharing you revolvers and especially the stories and info with them.
You, as well as many others, elevate this forum....

Very interesting story Bill. I know that your collection is quite extensive, and having one so hard to come by being re-united with its original case while in your possession, must be one of the highlights of your collecting career.

Black .44 Magnum Boxes.....
Er, Um Say Bill....
One of those boxes wouldn't be for S 167,361 would it?
My understanding is that Ray owned it once, a couple of hands before it ended up with me... sans case.

Great reunion, Bill. It has to be a good remembrance of Ray every time you look at it.
