King McGivern Red Bead Sight
A member of the forum sent me an email last week about his gun with a King McGivern Red Bead front sight.
If he could email me a picture of the sight I'd love to add it to my sight album on this forum. I'll credit it to him of course.
I'll wait to hear.

I have a old original refinished remington new model army with a king red bead post front sight. This old C&B probley was refinished 60 to 75 years ago? The sight isnt shown to well, maybe you can see something.
Also the rear hog wallow was squared up.

Hello Feralmerril
I believe they call that style sight a Red Post Patridge. I have one similar to it on my Model 17-2 shown that came from the factory but it is not King Marked. I have read after King closed it's doors S&W went on to produce some of their designs in House. This one Dates 1964
David, Does this Red McGivern Bead sight look like the Gold Ones with a Spherical shape ? What ,material did they use to produce the Red in it ? Regards, Hammerdown

Sorry Hammerdown, just picked up on the question.
The bead is some form of red plastic material, possibly resin. I'd like to have a closer look but it's not my gun, grrr... :-)
The bead has done well to survive over all these years undamaged.

Hello feralmerril
That's Neat. Mine is not marked anywhere so it must have been one of the Post-King Era sight blades made in house at S&W. Is yours a square style bead ? I can't see it all that well in your Pictures, but this tells me Sam Colt was getting his sights from King as well, and that I did not know. Thanks for sharing I appreciate it... Hammerdown

Yes, its a red square plastic. The gun was remodeled long before I bought it, sometime in 70s.

Hammerdown - You said that the red post sight came from the factory. Was it a special option? Does it increase its present value? I am looking at a 17-3 with the red post sight. I tried to find some info on the King sight company on the net and found very little. Thanks for any info.
