Default Did you see this 1952 Chiefs special

Now dont get me wrong, I would love an old Chiefs special and I look for them about once a month on GB,,, I would prefer a 1/2 moon front sight one, But this one intrigued me just enough to ask how much?
SMITH & WESSON CHIEFS SPECIAL 5 SCREW 1952 : Revolvers at GunBroker.com
Well, I could buy a real nice 27 with case and tools for what he wants for this fine chiefs special with "Original" grips which I did alert him that they are not original to any gun from 1952.
I sadly put one down at a gun show about 2 years ago and thought I would look about for a bit and let the 350 the guy wanted sink in a bit,, Well I only walked about for 5 minutes and went back to see someone else filling out papers to take it home,,,,
My but still hurts from kicking myself back then, And that was two years ago...
Well I am not kicking myself over walking/ Well running away from this example.
WHat do you think?
Peter

90% finish? Ha! Looks like about 75% to me. Rough gun and really just a shooter or carry piece.

Couldn't agree more!

As much as I love 5 screws, I wouldn't give a nickel more than $250. What too rough on the outside. I wonder what the inside looks like.

The triggerguard on this one is oval. It is not even a very early example that would command the premium price he is asking.

I recntly sold an early baby chief ,with the round triggerguard to a buddy locally for $500. and he was happy to get it.

this is a good lesson in what to look for ,and what to pass on.
this cat obviously believes he has a premium piece. Which he does not.

We learn to pass on auctions like this with regularity, without even making comment about them.

Keep looking, and good luck ,,Allen Frame

When did they start putting the ramp style front sights on these?
I thought '52 would still have the half moon style. Has the barrel been replaced?

Don't know about the barrel, but the grips are not diamonds.

Nice black backround in the pictures to hide the true wear. Scarry fingernails also. Chalk it up to gunbroker lunacy.

I asked him if he knew how to take photos or didn't want anyone seeing what the gun really looked like. Also mentioned it had the wrong grips.
