i have two guns, im looking at selling, but am unsure of what to ask.

first is a pre model 27 serial number s 98381. gun is in superb condition. "matching numbers" grips and all. can provide pics if needed.

second is a pre model 29 serial number s 171xxx. also is near perfect condition. gun has coke grips, but i can seem to find any numbers on them. are they not marked?

& I'm serious, if the price is right on both of these, you'll regret not purchasing both @ a later time.I've always been told that the grips were numbered to the pistol, but even if these are correct replacements for say a 98% pre-mod 29, & if the price was something I could afford, BUY it too.

I've got a lot more regrets on NOT purchasing many fine guns, than I ever did having paid too much for a couple. Same thing on keeping them, I regret that we sold many more, than have regrets for Not selling a few on an offer.

I think a little more info might help. What barrel length are these revolvers? Boxes & tools that came with them included?

If you would, post a few pictures and that will help when the experts chime in.

i already have these guns, looking to get a value so i can sell them.

boxes yes on the 44, no on the 357. but they are not too hard to get.

barrel length, where do i meassure to? 44 i think is a 6.5" if i measured correct, and the 357 5.5"

He was actually looking at selling, not buying.

Best approach would be looking at all the boards and doing searches. Same with the auction sites. Forget the ones that did NOT sell. Look at the ones that did sell and you will get a more realistic price measure. A baseline if you will.

You can then judge how yours compares and then make a informed decision on whether or not to add or subtract from that number.

Asking the forum questions like that will inevitably get you answers you don't want.

You can probably get a more honest answer if you reword the question- I.e. I found a gun (with the following description and/or pics) and then asking what value people might put it at and then go from there.

Good luck on the sales. Just keep in mind that once they are gone, they are gone. I had a few slip away from a brain fart and regretted it.

Both are very desirable guns. They're much sought after by collectors. Its important to note they're also "C&R" so you open a slightly different market base. Exact numbers can vary.

I'd guess the value of the M29/pre 29 at just above $2000, because I've seen them sell on the open market for that in recent months. The Pre m27 is probalby worth somewhat less, but I'd guess maybe $1500. As for finding the box for a 1954 vintage gun....good luck with that. See DanT here, he often has a supply of very nice boxes, and charges fair (not cheap, but fair) prices. If you find one cheaper, lunge at it. He'll also tell you how things are, and he won't pump sunshine up your skirt. Honesty is the best policy, and he adheres to it.

You do need to post pics if you can, but if the pre-29 does in fact have the correct box and tools in decent shape, the grips dont have any dings or chips in them, then I would say roughly $2500. That is my opinion on what one of these guns should top at. On auction it could go either way depending on the bidders. I think you are going to start seeing prices come down a little as there have been quite a few sold recently and the people who wanted one bad enough to pay more have already done it.

I am assuming of course your gun is a 4 screw based on the serial number you listed. I would also expect your gun shipped in 1957 though one never knows about Smith.

BTW Cokes were never numbered to the gun as they were not a fitted part like magna's. Some target grips were numbered, but only the ones that came on the 1950 and 1955 Target guns AFAIK

There worth what someone will pay for them, stick them on Gunbroker with no reserve and you will find out what they are worth. You will only get ballpark figures here and you might end up leaving some money on the table too.

Really need to see pics of the guns to give any kind of accurate estimate.
Sticking them on GB will only work out for you if the guns are in top condition, you can take GREAT pics, and write accurate, articulate descriptions
