Question Will S&W work on my Victory?

I got a US Navy marked Victory Model that has a few issues. The lock up is off and the new cylinder bolt that I put in needs to be fitted a bit better then I can do. Does S&W still work on these? I also need to get a new barrel put on as the one on it is bulged a bit.

A genuine, US Navy issued Victory model is chambered for .38 Special. It will not chamber the .38 S&W cartridge.

Oops I misread your question!

S&W will not work on vintage revolvers such as your VIctory model because of the unavailability of parts. It also uses the "long action" which uses parts specific to it, for which no parts have been manufactured since WWII.

It's been quite a while since my buddy Charlie put an unjudicious handload through his Victory Model... he told me the barrel got screwed up, I never saw the damage. (A Mass Resident) he returned the gun to the Service Center. There were no new correct barrels available (in the late 1970s) but they installed a current M10 barrel for him, returning it to use as a shooter.
Perhaps a used parts source might find you one. Just a quick look... Gunbroker.com has a never installed 4" model 10 barrel w/ ramp sight 24.99. A used M10 barrel starting at $20. Further down I found a 38 S&W 5" Victory model barrel new in the wrapper for 35. There was a correct barrel (used) but much higher priced. So barrels are out there.

If you still need a barrel, I have a new, unfired, unfitted 38 Special Victory barrel that is not numbered. If interested contact me at [email protected] Asking $55 shipped

The factory probably will not work on it, but Dave Chicoine will, and
will deal with all the issues.

A Victory should be .38 special as stated.

FWIW I just got a K22 back from the factory and they did a bunch of work on it even though it dates to 1954. So the occasionally voiced opinion that they will not work on older ones is not always true. Maybe it's a case by case basis depending on how old it is, whether they have or can make parts if needed etc.

Call them first.

Good luck.

Steve

I have had a few leads on replacement barrels here on the Forum. Been working to much and had no time for gun projects. Thanks for the offer m-1911. I may take you up on that.

I had a pre Model 31 that S&W did some minor work on a few years back. May have to call them and see.

Mike Priwer,
Can you give me some more info on Dave Chicoine please?
Thanks!

Gday Sir,
Two S&W specialists that are worth contacting are-
David R Chicoine Tel (704) 853-0265. Internet oldwestgunsmith.com

For parts according to my info for obsolete models try Jim Horvath 117 So. Alexandria, New Orleans, LA 70119
email [email protected]

There should be enough old parts around from the pre Victory models to obtain a replacement barrel and any other bits and pieces.

A book by David Chicoine is also worthwhile, Antique firearms assembly/disassembly, this is very informative and includes the Victory model. Step by step takedown instructions etc.
