Value of .38 Model 1905, Change 3
I have a family gun I need to sell. Research indicates it is a Model 1905, change 3. Serial # is 228582. It is all original. Mechanically it is excellent. Finish would probably be considered in the 70-80% range. Was hoping to get a rough idea of value from the experts. Many thanks and Happy New Year!

In that condition, $200-250 as a shooter, depending on the area you live in.

Its about a 1913 gun. It looks to be 4" - does it have the patent-date rollmarkings on the right side of the barrel ?

What I meant was - are the patent-date roll markings on the side of the barrel, or on the top ? And how many lines of patent-date roll markings are there ?

I see it as a $250 gun. It is finish challenged yet mechanically looks good, I couldn't really tell unless I physically handled it. There is some wear on the grips, but nothing terribly bad. The screws do not look buggered, so it might not have been opened. It is built prior to the S&W heat treat, so it is a hand loader or cowboy load gun. The round grip does not add some value but if it was a square butt it would have been 2 or 3 times value., but it is a 4" barrel so it has no great worth. If it had a 5 or 6 inch barrel with that round grip, it would be worth close to $350 to $400 for me.
