Default Victory/Lend Lease grip question

I have a friend who has one of the victory guns. I teased him recently that between the wear on the frame, (approx 80% remaining), lanyard removal and the pre war diamond magnas, the gun is is worth 125-150. Apparently he doesn't believe me that the grips aren't right. Here is a link to a gun which has the same grips as my friends Victory model:
http://www.armchairgunshow.com/ot57-pix/hcp8-01.jpg

I'm 95% sure that all of the victory guns should have the plain wood stocks, without diamonds, without medallions, without checkering, etc. Here is what I think is supposed to be on all victory models:

Even if other grips came on some victory models, his grips are too old for victory models, correct? The grips from the victory time period for a K frame are high horn, silver medallion, diamond magnas, correct?

Did any of the victory models originally come with any other grip types other than the smooth plain stocks? I assume not but I thought I would ask my peers to verify. Thanks guys.

Hi, you are correct that all VMs came with smooth walnut service stocks. The pre-Victory .38-200s, however, did come with checkered service stocks with medallions (similar to the ones on the gun in your avatar, not Magnas), and in bright or brush blue. These had a later six-digit serial number (800000 range) with no V prefix, usually stamped with the initials W.B. and the Ordnance bomb near the number on the butt. As far as the stocks in the first link, they are from the 1920-'30 era, but S & W was churning these guns out of the factory for the British and may have had this type sitting around the factory. Have him check for a matching number on the inside, likely in pencil.

So these pre Victory guns had the grips in my avatar or did they have the high horn grips? I know the high horn medallion grips with diamond are pre war.

Were some of the Victory models WITH the V prefix chambered in 38/200? Or was it pretty much all V prefix guns are 38 special aka pre model 10?

Thanks for the help. I didn't realize the complication of the history of the victory model.

Gorings:
You need to invest in the 'Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson'!

Production of V prefix Victories was split between .38-200 and .38 Spl. All had smooth grips and wartime finish.

Pre-V British purchase guns had commercial finish and commercial standard service grips (checkered with small silver medallions).
I assume that what you are referring to as 'high horn' grips are pre-war magnas. Those are only found on some target sighted guns and special orders. (very scarce)

I already have the book actually. I'm just having some downtime at work and rather than stare at the wall, I decided to try to get this debate resolved between me and my friend. My book is at home and while I have some of it memorized, there is a lot of info in there. I was unaware of the rarity of the high horn grips. I have a pair on my K-22 second model aka K-22 target masterpiece 1st model. Thanks for the help guys.

I have a pre victory with the correct grips.

When I got this gun, it had grips like yours on it, but I got these from a forum member.
