I ran across a M&P Model 1905 4th change four inch barrel with a round butt. In good shape and for a decent price.
I can't recall seeing a round butt model 1905 before. Were they rare and are they worth more than a square butt model?

I believe the the round butt is more scarce than the square butt in the1905. All though the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson states that the square butt is more rare and worth two times the value I believe I have read somewhere this was an editing mistake and the round butt is actually more scarce. It seems to me there are alot more square butt 1905's around. I have been able to pick up a number of nice 1905's but have been able to find only one in the round butt configuration. If it is a nice gun at a fair price I think it will be money well spent. -Chad
They made so many .38 special revolvers between 1905 and 1938,
that its hard to know how many of each butt configuration. I'd guess
that there are more square butts than round butts, but with 700,000
or so revolvers, that is not meaningful. There ought to be enough
round butts to satisfy everyone who wants one !
