Default Were there many pre-27s with nickle finishes?

I ran across one today, a 3.5" nickle pre-27...

The seller told me he'd keep it for me and I could come buy the gun later in the week.

It's got me thinking...actually, aspenhill got me thinking...is this gun like the pre-15 (nickel) I bought this past year...would this nickle gun be considered unusual? Any additional value?

Thanks

Bob

I don't think they're as rare as a pre-Model 15 in nickel, but few and far between. I have one and have seen a few in the last couple years. In good shape it should be worth a premium over a blued gun in the same configuration.

I had a nickle pre 27 an "expert" had mentioned that he thought only about 10% of the guns were nickle

I have also heard the 10% figure. Seems to be about a push on value as about 10% of buyers seek them.

Bob, any nickel pre model gun is fairly scarce although as Jayc has said the pre15's like ours are a lot scarcer. I have seen quite a few nickel pre-27's on this board and they all seem to be 3 1/2" guns.

Nickel guns need to be inspected VERY carefully to ensure they are in fact factory shipped nickel guns and not refinishes. Barry called me about this gun and I believe there are issues with it that you need to look closely at before you drop the bills. I believe there is something wrong with the front sight.

I agree, the front sight has me concerned as well. I'm really not a buyer so much as interested in knowing if the gun (if all was as it should be) would be worth a premium with nickel. It also sports a set of Cokes...some good & bad with this gun. Bob

Saxonpig,

That gun seems to have a few cosmetic issues - but the grips sure look nice!

The pre-27s shown in this thread are MUCH nicer than the one I was looking at this weekend...I appreciate all the pics )(SaxonPig, that may have been used, but I'd grab it up in a heartbeat!) (as is always the case...NICE one Jerry!) and also the thoughts on how "unusual" nickel is with the pre-27s.

A few years back, Cabela's in KC had a 3 1/2 pre 27 in nickel for about $895, in excellent condition. I went back to see if it was still there and it was gone. It sat for almost a year and I couldn't handle that much for a nickel gun, when a blue one could be had for a lot less. Later, I saw one with a gold box for $1500. So, it seems to me that the early '50's nickel pre 27's go for a premium.
Bob, that gun was on the table that you bought the pre 28 from, right? I looked at it too, but not to buy. What was his price? He did not have prices on anyone of them.

Richard,

I remember that gun at Cabela's ...I had the exact same thoughts as you.
Yes, the same table. He had the pre-27 available for $1,100

Nickle pre-27s in the 8 3/8 inch barrel length are super rare ... I have only seen two examples in the last 6 years...

The night I went in to look at it, the salesman brought out a ANIB RM, telling me I needed to buy this one! Boy, was he right. I didn't let it out of my hands until I had paid for it!

I don't know if that price is too high, or not. I tend to think it is for it's condition, but with nickel guns, I don't know. I do not have any nickel guns. Are you chasing it?
