S&W 32 Long Revolver
Bought a neat pistol and woud like some help in identifing the age and charactoristics. It is Blue and smaller than a K frame. It has a 4" barrel, long hammer throw and a big lun on the ejector rod. The grips are diamond checkered dark brown with gold medalions. The grips extend past the bottom of the frame to cover where I would usually look for the serial number. The serial number is on the front of the grip above the screw that puts tension on the mainspring. There is the same number on the rear of the cylinder. The barrel says Smith and wesson Springfield Mass, USA. PATD and the second line has OCT.8.01DEC17.01.FEB 8.08.SEPT14.09DEC29.14 I would call the pistol 80% with varnish on the grips. The pistol does not have the S&W logo anywhere on the frame or any other writing except the number on the frame under the crane. serial number is 295XXX. Any info would be appreciated. I will try to get pictures when I can
Thanks

The gun sounds like a .32 Regulation Police. If you pull the grips you should find the backstrap has a step in it. If you look carefully you may find Pat. June 5 1917 on the bottom of the left grip, the marking is quite fine and may be hard to see. You should check on the bottom of the barrel and the rear of the cylinder to see if the serial numbers there match, the number will probably also be on the inside of the right grip. This would be a fairly earily gun as the serial numbers started about 260000.

Ken, without seeing the gun it is a bit difficult to assign a value. If it is an 80% original finish gun I would guess at $225-$325. It sounds like the grips may have been refinished. If you could post some good pictures it would be a great help.
