Welcome to the Forum.
You have a Model of 1902 .38 Military & Police from about 1907. Some collectors call this a Model 1905, 1st change, due to engineering changes. Others call it a Model of 1902 due to the round butt. You are always safe calling it a .38 M&P.
This was the most popular S&W ever built, counting all of the changes that were made over the years. Condition counts the most as far as value and unfortunately, this one is pretty poor. If the price is $200 or under and has a good bore, I say buy it. If the price is high due to the seller saying that all old S&Ws are pricey, walk away.

I wouldn't put too much money into it, and then only if the mechanics are good and the bore is not rusted out. Zero collector interest in these in such low condition. The MOP grips make it a little interesting (if undamaged) but they are not factory original. And I do have several listed having reasonably close SNs which shipped in 1907. At that time period S&W would have called it a Model of 1902 as it has the rounded butt. BTW, it would make a good candidate for a DIY refinish job if you are looking for a rainy day project.

Can't you find better condition guns where you live? Are Smith & Wesson arms rare there?
