M&P rescue
I picked this up dirt cheap last night. 5", Square butt, serial #564039, the action is nice and tight. I'm guessing around 1927 but if anyone has a better guess I'd like to hear it. The name William Green is engraved on the side plate, there was a congressman from that time frame but I'm sure there were thousands of William Greens. I'm curious but would hate to spend as much on a letter as I did on the gun.

1927 sounds about right. Here's one from 1926:

zgate, I'd LOVE to spend some time with that classic, some copper scrubber pads, and oil. Bet it will shine like a new penny after a good cleaning.
OIF2, I hate you. Where do you guys find these pristine revolvers. I NEVER see them.

Hi John
Don't be a hater... just kidding! That M&P was purchased from our own 'handejector". It sat on his site for something like a year, with no takers. It's actually nicer than the photos. Screws look to be buggered, but aren't (photo light). It shoots factory wadcutters to POA all day. Love the 5" M&P. I think the OP's revolver will clean up quite nicely.
Bob
PS-Here's another, from the 30's...

Better Pictures
I tried to take some better pictures today. BTW - It is clean, there is almost no finish left on the barrel/frame but the cylinder is about 95%. Very strange.
bgjr1966 - If I do get rid of it you'll be the first to know.

ZGATE,
Mr. Jinks said that 578210 was made in 1926. It is Marked Springfield Police Dept. I was happy to get it as it has a 6" barrel, kinda different from the usual 4" and 5" police guns.

Thanks for the info, it's older then I thought.
I took it to the range and it puts 6 into a 1" group every time. The sights are point of aim at 15 yards with light wad cutters. I can just hope I perform that well at that age.
