Default .38 M&P Model of 1905 4th Change ~ Target

Picked this up today.....First one I've seen in years with target sights and square butt. It is in the 6660XX SN range... Anyone letter one close to that SN...? Looking for a approximate date of shipping.

I have 648xxx shipped on Feb 7, 1935. I would say that the grips are too early for the gun and they should have the silver medallions

I also have 686xxx shipped in May 1940

Hi, I think 1936. If you call the factory to ask, I have heard from several people that Roy Jinks (the factory historian) will chat with you about it's ship date. Or you can join the SWCA

I have 1905/Fourth target model 649954, shipped May 1935.

Those non-medallion stocks are in great shape, but wouldn't they be from the 1920s? I can't see them as original to the gun, but please educate me if they have the same serial number on the inside right panel.

I'm thinking your serial number looks like 1937/1938.

The non-medallions are a extra set that I had in a gunsafe, not original to the gun....

However, the stocks that came with the gun were a set of high-horn post war transitional magna's...in excellent condition.

Thanks everyone that posted their guns dates... I think Dick is right, probably around early 1938...

Had a chance to shoot the old girl today. It was amazingly accurate. Had a smooth DA pull and was a very clean breaking trigger in SA. Am well pleased with this 70 year old gun. Might have to consider buying another, if the opportunity presents itself....

Nice looking target there! I have one number 556123 that I was told by someone here dates to 1927. They are good shooters, I have only put thirty rounds thru mine, all DA and it did fairly good. Enjoy!
