Default Identify / Value .32 5-shot

I'm still a 43 year old newbie, who came from the semi-auto world and now enjoys his 686 and 66 2.5, both forum purchases.

I came across this revolver in a local ad site. Ad reads:

Smith & Wesson hammerless 5 shot 32 revolver.

I think it is late 1800s, good mechanical condition.

Left side grip has damage.

pic attached.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi, this is a .32 Safety Hammerless. They were made from 1888 to 1937. If you have a partial serial number (123xxx) more details can be provided.

Thank you Alan. I do not have a serial #, this just popped up today on a local website. I thought it might be a good deal - he is asking $ 100.

Do the prices vary substantially based upon production date? How do you feel about the asking price?

I will try to acquire the serial #

Thank you for your help

The $100 asking price is well within the buy it now ! before some one else does range . Even if a little ratty, the gun should be worth that and more.

I think that is a fair price if it is functioning. If you intend to shoot it, depending on when it was built, it may have been made for black powder cartridges only, something to consider. Also, it takes the .32 S & W (or Short, not Long), which is not a common caliber. Modern ammo in this caliber is loaded light, so it is probably not an issue...just food for thought.

These are very interesting little guns. They start growing on you after awhile. This is a 1921 shipped third model. I think $100 is very reasonable if it is mechanically decent.
