Pre-19 Combat Magnum Price Check
What's the going rate for a pre-19 Combat Magnum 1955 99% blue 4" with box? I've asked the same question in the 1961 to 1980 forum, but perhaps it really belongs here.

The few that I've seen lately had asking prices north of $1000.

IMO, 1st year combat magnum as you describe would sell $1500-1800.
The early models are very scarce in that condition.
Were the grips diamond football targets or non-relieved diamond targets?

I don't recall which grips where on it. I'm sure they were diamond targets, but I don't recall if they were football or non-relieved. Is there a value difference?

I think VM's question was more along the lines of whether the stocks are original to the gun; originals would have probably been non-relieved (?) and make the gun more valuable.

Yes and no - more for just curiousity.
There have been a few good disscussions in the past on which were correct for the early guns. IMO, both can be correct.
Member "DWFAN" proves the footballs are correct on his early CM because his grips are numbered to his gun.

I believe they're original, but I'll have to take a closer look if I decide to make a run at the gun. That will probably require they be removed to see if they are numbered to the gun.

I just bought a minty 19-2 that was all original and was pleased to get a 7th year gun (1962)

I see there is a nickel one on gunbroker with a buy it now price of $2,200. That being said, I haven't seen anyone bid more than $1,300 for it. So are the nickels worth more or less than the blued? If they are worth 10 to 20% more, that would suggest the real price for blued in great condition may be closer to $1,000.

The nickel gun on GB is marketed by a seller known for higher prices. I want it so bad I can taste it, but I won't pay $2200 for it.
Less nickel guns of any model were made than blue, so value is generally a bit higher no matter the model.
I'd value the gun you describe at between $1000-1400. That value is based on some I've bought and some I've seen for sale by the more well-known S&W sellers--Lee Jarrett, David Carroll. It's also dependent on actual condition, serial number range (earliest was K260,001) and whether the box is blue cardboard or the presentation style case covered with blue fabric which was used on the first 500 units.

I believe it has a cardboard box with at least one corner torn. Not sure if it has papers or tools, but I believe it has the original vapor paper. I'm going to sleep on it, and give some thought to just how bad I want it.

Mine is one of the first 100 made. This is one of the few models that were serial numbered in sequence. Considering I had been looking for one for over four years I figure I got a deal. $2000. It's called put up or shut up. I also got a very nice rare gun for my money.
