Victory model clear holsters?
Seems that I ran into one a while back...
Used for airmen or something?
Are they worth anything?

Are referring to the clear see-thru type pouch that is sometimes seen in pictures of Navy pilots wearing their Victory Models in regular leather shoulder holsters with the gun in the pouch and the gun & pouch shoved into the leather holster? If so, yes they have some value to a Victory collector, if they are in good condition. They were also apparently used for some victory Models shipped overseas, to protect them enroute, judging from photos I've see. These clear pouches were seen fairly regularly at gun shows after WW2 and up until the 60s. You seldom see them now. I always liked them as they were convient to keep handguns in in the safe or gun locker, as you could see quickly what gun was in the pouch. I've seen a couple on Ebay over the last few years and they sold in the $10-$15 range. Ed.

I think Navy pilots hoped they'd keep seawater off of their guns until they could get into their life rafts.
I'd like to see a photo, if someone has one. Never encountered one, but they'd make sense in that application.
I think some oiled wax paper pouches were also used until invasion troops got ashore on Normandy beaches on D-Day, too. Does anyone know anything about those?

T-Star, check page 305, in Charlie Pates' book "US Handguns of WW2" The top picture shows a Navy pilot with his Victory Model contained in a clear protectve cover and in his shoulder holster. This is the pouch I was referring to in my above post. Ed.

Hello
My Dad was a gunner in a TBM Avenger during the War. Next time I see him, I will try and remember to ask about this.
Thanks

Thanks! BTW, I don't own the Pate book. Never seen a copy of it. Is it still in print?

The book is still available from Mobray Publications, or direct from Charlie, I think. email him@ [email protected]. It's a must have definitive volumn for any gun collector. Ed.
