If it's in really stunning condition, and if you can get it at the high end of the given range or a little more, I'd say go for it. But if the seller wants $550 or more, I'd either thank him and walk away, or start some serious haggling. Kind of depends on the gun and your current interest. How much do you want this kind of gun right now?
I think you should be able to find comparables on Gunbroker in recent weeks. You might want to log in there to see what realized prices look like on 1905/Fourths.
Recently I found a Model of 1902 M&P in excellent mechanical shape but with a not quite excellent exterior for $400. I considered that a very good price from the buyer's point of view.
