Default Lanyard ring on a K22 ?

I'm looking at some K22 revolvers and one in particular that seems a bit odd but looks nice. It's got a glossy finish like a model 29, not like the 28. I thought all of the 5 screw vintage revolvers were not highly polished. As well this one has a lanyard ring. Althogh I like the idea of one...I've never seen one in my 63 years of life...

What do you experts think ?

Without being able to recollect details, I'll just report that some K-frame .22s were manufactured as training revolvers for personnel who would carry larger calibers in service -- maybe it's one of those. Could also be valuable. Is it fixed or adjustable sight? A ribbed barrel? Can you tell us the serial number? Does it have any non-standard markings?

It could also be just a standard revolver to which someone added a lanyard ring as a special order.

If you buy it, please post pictures.

There was one on Gunbroker a week or so ago. Does the one you're looking at have a ramp front sight also.

Without having it in hand, i'm guessing a reblue. Perhaps it was special ordered with bright blue, lanyard ring, & ramp sight but the odds are against it. too much of a gamble without a close in hand inspection.

It is possible that it is one of the British Victory Models that was converted to 22 caliber in England. Is the lanyard ring centered on the butt? Is the serial number offset?

Butt swivels could be ordered on any model.

Bright Blue was phased in on K Masterpieces at the very end of the 5 screw period.

I think that if the lanyard ring is not through the SN on the butt, then it is factory. Is SN offset on the butt?

I think that is either a special order gun or a standard gun that was later refinished and modified. Note that it has a six inch barrel but a ramp front sight; the standard K-22 Masterpiece front sight is a patridge blade, but this has the front sight that was standard on the four-inch combat masterpiece version. So it is either a special order gun from the get-go, which might explain the high-polish finish and the butt swivel, or it was refinished, at which time the swivel was added and the front sight swapped out. Is there a star next to the serial number on the butt? Is there a date code under the stocks (like 10.65 for October 1965)?

The fifth screw and the speed hammer show it is a pre-1956 gun. Can you tell us the serial number (or most of it)?

The pictures are kind of dark, and I can't see whether the gun looks refinished or not. In one photo it looks like the frame corners are a little rounded, which would point to yes, but in other photos the evidence of rebuffing is not obvious. So I can't really express a sound opinion on what happened with this revolver.

Very cool gun, in any event.

Thanks for this bit of info on K 22 finish. I wondered why my 5 screw has a more frosted or matte blue and my early 4 screw was polished blue.

The SN would date it as being shipped around mid-1948. The only way you can know the configuration as-shipped is by ordering a factory letter. I believe the high gloss finish could be special ordered as an extra-cost option, or it could be a re-blue. Again, you'd need a letter to know.

Likely for failure to understand (one of) The Golden Rules---the one that goes like this: "Them what gots the gold makes the rules."---or perhaps for talking when he should have been listening---or just because the powers that be had grown weary of fooling with him.

As far as finding out exactly why goes, it pretty much stands to reason there will be no response----given the plethora of law school graduates looking for something to do.
