5 screw heading to S&W
A neighbor recently brought me this very nice K38. He explained his kid took it out target shooting with friends and it quit working. He took it to a local guy for repair, who took it apart, then could not find a replacement barrel. The guy returned the gun with the wrong screws and no barrel pin. Needless to say, I am sending it home for repairs. Will post pictures when it returns from S&W.
Could not get a straight story as to the ammo they were using. Real shame to cause this damage to an old warhorse.
The forcing cone split, causing the edge to rub against the cylinder, stopping the rotation at that point. I suspect fanning the weapon!!!

That's too bad. If there was no history of timing problems with the gun, I also would suspect that some form of improper or inattentive operation contributed to the damage.
A 1953 gun, judging from the serial number, with relieved target stocks and target hammer. I hope S&W can put that one back together.

Yes, a phone call has already assured me they can put her right. Timing is fine. KIDS playing with the wrong things, these guys were in their late 20's and had been directed opn the proper handling of firearms, just poor judgement.

Hopefully the "local guy" had the proper frame wrench to remove the frame from the barrel. Joe

I hope you have a name of the person who OKd it for repair at S&W. Theyre policy is to not take any pre 1957 (model marked) guns in.

Thanks for the comments. I have been given other options to correct the issue. They are out of 6 in barrels for this gun. When completed it will still be a valued item. I have always been a fan of the Combat Masterpiece.
