Another Outdoorsman
First post for me, thanks to all of you for the great information on this site. I picked up this K-22 about a month ago at a local gun shop. This one is a shooter-grade gun, probably from around 1935. I've looked everywhere I can think of for a correct set of stocks for it and have yet to find any. Any ideas? How much to pay? All advice appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Very nice acquisition. This is probably what the grips that came on the gun looked like.
Someone here on the forum may be able to help you locate a pair.

Welcome to the forum and now that you have the disease, be prepared to be broke. That's a very nice looking 22 that you have there. I would post an ad here on the forum with the serial number or approximate serial number and someone might just have your stocks or ones close in number that they would be willing to part with for some pictures of dead presidents.

That's a splashy way to introduce yourself. What a great gun! Welcome to the forum.
Iggy is right that the original wood on your gun would have been the small-medallion service stocks like the ones in his picture. But your gun was shipped just about the time the familiar magna stocks were being designed and released on the N-frame guns. The style followed on the K-frames. If you can't find service stocks at an affordable price (and even if you could find them, some people don't find them that comfortable to shoot with), you could put some diamond magna stocks on the gun and not be too far wrong. Back in the day, magnas could be bought separately and retrofitted to older guns, so I would consider that an acceptable solution to your grip problem.

I would guess a bit earlier as it has the early rear sight. (no "locking screw") What's the serial number?
I have a small database of pre-war K-22s and the latest of this type of sight I've recorded is 1933.
Also, what is the bead in the front sight? Stainless, Gold or ??.

Dean,
Serial # on this one #6444XX and comparing it to my other one #6565XX, you are right, it has no locking screw. It has the stainless bead. I see you're not that far up the coast from me.

I have 646390, which has the locking screw on the rear sight. Mine shipped in April 1934. Stainless bead -- no surprise there. I think the gold bead was used only in the first year of manufacture.
Dean, I learned something from you. I was unaware of the rear sight variants on the K-22 OD until I read your post.

ussokc, (Which Okie City? The cruiser or the sub??)
And, how far down the coast are you?
Your 656,5xx probably shipped early 1936. I have a listing in the DB for 654,9xx as shipping in 12/35 and 657,9xx shipping in 10/36.
What's the sight bead on your later one??
David,
Interesting! (We had a big discussion a couple of years ago as to whether the mounting screw should be counted or not seeing as how they all had it. The consensus was to just count the adjusting screws. Hence "1 screw" early sights and "2 screw" later ones.)
Your "2 screw" sight is right on the cusp of the change over.
The latest 1 screw gun I have a date for shipped 06/32 and the earliest 2 screw gun is now yours shipped 04/34.
645,515 is a 1 screw but I don't have a shipping date. I have a listing for 645,5xx as shipping in 12/33, but don't know if it was a 1 or 2 screw. (AAARGH!!)

I guess my next question is "When were you on the OKC?"
We operated with her when I was on the Yorktown in 61-62. (I believe she was the 7th Fleet flagship.)
