Possible Birth month gun
Looking at a model 29 that may be a possible birth month gun. the SN is S2155xx. I know the book says 1960-61, and that I will never know for sure without a letter, but does anyone have something close in serial number with an exact ship date? I am just playing the odds. Thanks.

More info
Unfortunately, the serial numbers do not work that way. Two guns with serial numbers a few digits away from each other could have shipped months or even years apart. If you want to find a birthday gun, it is best to state your birthdate. That will help people determine if they have a gun shipped on the right month or day. The serial number lists are just guides and sometimes not much more than that.
If you decide to see if anyone on the forum has a birth month gun they would be willing to sell or trade, you should tell everyone a bit more about your preferences like barrel length, condition, do you want it in the original case, etc.
I was fortunate enough to find a S&WCA member who had a Model 29-2 shipped during my birth month (February 1971) and just four days before my birthday. We worked out a trade for another Model 29-2 that I owned. In the end, we both ended up with nice guns, but mine was a bit more sentimental.

I have Model 29 in the S207000 range that shipped in November 1960. It has a 6 1/2-inch barrel. I would "guess" your 29 shipped in late 1960 or early 1961, but SigKev is correct that a Model 29's serial number may not be indicative of when it was shipped. However, by 1960, shipping dates and serial numbers for this model made much more sense than they did in the 1956-1957 timeframe.

Since Bill's gun SN 207000 shipped in November 1960, SN 2155xx would probably not be the same month.

I knew it was a "shot in the dark". My birthdate is November 1960. As far as preferences, I am looking for a Model 29. I have no barrel length preference. I would prefer a high 90's percent condition. Case would be nice but not required.

Good luck with your search, I looked forever for a 29 shipped in 1966 before I found one.
