Default Progress on a 3" 1899 barrel

Here are three pictures of the progress on a 3" 1899 barrel.
The front sight base, and the flat on the bottom of the barrel,
are both am integral part of the barrel.

On this barrel, and a 3 1/2" to follow, the process has changed,
such that all the work is going to be done with the barrel in the
horizontal position. This one is tipped about 2 degrees, or so, to
get the right taper.

Mike, thanks for the update, quite a complex project. I look forward to the finished gun.

Looking forward to the completed pictures. I do not have the skills or equipment to try something like this.

Question; with the difference in the lock-works, what can be done to smooth up, lighten up the trigger pull? I have a pretty clean one that you helped walk me through tearing down and cleaning up. I haven't shot it, and find the trigger pull much stiffer than the usual S&W K Frame. Most probably I should leave it alone, but if I would want to, can you recommend any enhancements to this action? It is totally stock as is.

H. Richard, trigger pull resistance is the result ( assuming there's no unfitted lock work parts, etc) of the main spring strength. If adjusting the strain screw doesn't help. then the thickness of the main spring can be carefully reduced, by grinding. Take off only a very small amount at a time, testing the trigger pull frequently, until you get to the desired pull strength. If you don't have the tools or skills to try that approach, then get some extra main spings and try them until you find one that does the job for you. K frame main springs are pretty much the same in length but you will find variations in thickness. Good luck, Ed #15

Indeed - I remember working with you on that !

The problem is that secondardy flat spring, that drives the trigger
rebounding levers. They put a lot of pressure on the trigger, particularly
when trying to single-action the hammer, because of the leverage.

Nothing can be done, except to thin that spring,

Think I'll leave it as is. It's scarce enough to not mess with, even though it's only in about 85% condition, I'll keep it that way.
