was the title of my display at the S&WCA meeting in Tucson and featured four 44 Magnums engraved and inlaid with gold and silver from 1956-1958, as well as two pairs of stocks carved by Mr. White and inlaid with ivory. It was only one of many wonderful displays.

The drool has definitely started. Do you happen to have any close-up pics of the guns from your great display?

I couldn't afford the tablecloth...

You don't think it would be better to display the stocks actually mounted on guns?

SP...I would have only displayed the stocks on a 44 engraved by Alvin White and I didn't have any spares.

I will put these stocks on engraved 44 Magnums, but not as part of a display specific to the work of Alvin White.

Of the four 44s displayed, Alvin White considered the one below to be the fanciest one he ever did for S&W. It was engraved for the President of Rex Firearms in October 1956 and features "a tiger in the grass" on the side plate.

You don't have to show many guns to epitomize elegence and artistry. Beautiful.

Bill's display was incredible in person. It was the first display I voted for on Friday (7/16). The wood carving on the stocks was something I had not seen before.

Are the guns pictured "non-firing", as in disabled to prevent someone from cocking the gun and ringing the cylinder?

The second picture has a hint of a turn-line. I can't imagine even taking the chance of drawing the hammer back on those revolvers. Guns have a long life and I wonder how they survive in that kind of condition.

Also do you have a close-up of the darker grips with what appears to be a cat, in the righthand of the first picture.

That's the finest engraving I've ever seen.
(Thanks for the new desktop background.)

Bill,
I meant to thank you at Tucson for that display.
Simply awesome. White's work is incredible.

Makes me want to agree with a character I don't like-

GF...the 44s are fully functional and can be fired. I don't think they have been fired, but the cylinder on a couple of them has been cycled over the years.

I will post a close-up of the carved stocks tomorrow.

Bill, I just stole another copy of one of your photos for my "SOMEDAY" folder.

I knew I was going to regret not getting to the annual meeting this year.

Just gorgeous.

Bill,

Thank you very much for pictures of more of your amazing collection.

Regarding the engraved stocks; is there a special type of wood used to take the engraving ... or is a wood like Goncalo Alves OK? I would guess it would have to be very dense stuff.

I wish I could have been in Tuscon this year to see these guns in person.

Best Regards,

Jerry

Thumbs up JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!

Bill:

I spent a long time each of my many trips through the gun room admiring your beautiful collection of guns in the "White". He truly was a master of his craft and I feel honored to have been able to experience his guns up close!

Thanks again for your willingness to share with the rest of us.

A photo of the stocks with the ivory cat inlaid on the right stock panel (the left stock panel has an ivory diamond inlaid on it) is shown below. Mr. White has carved stocks made of birds eye maple, black walnut, Goncalo alves, and rosewood that I have seen. The ones below I believe are Goncalo alves.

Thanks for posting, I'd seen the other set you have (with the relieved top and lighter color) mounted on a revolver in another picture you've posted. These are unusual and a real work of art.

AND....What a look on the cats face?!?

Sir - thank you for taking the time to properly photograph and then share your guns. "A tiger in the grass." That is simply the most incredible looking engraved firearm I have ever seen.

Great display Bill! It was really special to see those four Alvin White guns together! Just love the artistry of engraved and gold inlayed 29's! I still think Mr. White does the best gold inlayed animals! The detail is outstanding! The grips are just as neat. Really enjoyed them.
