Hi polish value vs. matte finish?
K 22 pre 17 5 screw 1955 production with hi polish bright finish. Do they bring a premium over the matte finish ones? How much? Thanks Bob

I have a fondness for matte finishes on Masterpieces because I favor lower serial numbers, and matte (well, satin) is pretty much the only finish you can get on those. I would recognize a value differential based on age before I would go for shiny over matte (or vice versa).
So for me, no; no value bump in this case. Others may feel differently.

If I saw a shiney one from that time period the first thing I would do is look it over real carefully for a possible re-blue. Just me and my paranoia.

I have a pre 24 model from that time period that has the high polished option. The standard catalog of s&w says you can add a 20% premium for the shinny gun.I don't think it was a option on the k-22, but maybe it was.

I have 2 K-22 masterpieces, a 53 and a 57, one is satin and one is polished. The only other notable difference is 4 vs 5 screws. I carry the polished one more only due to a slight blem in the blue caused by some previous owners 1/4 thumb print. I asked a similar question in an earlier thread some months ago. DCWilson gave a great answer on the finsh change chronology to high polish.

I have two from 1948, one satin and one polished. I tend to like the bright finish, but I'm more concerned with authenticity, as already mentioned. To me, the best finish is the very deep polish like on my 1938 Outdoorsman.
