Default Victory Model markings

I have a friend that owns a gun/fishing shop and he calls me everytime an older Smith is traded in. Today he had a Victory model come through the door. I am really not a Victory guy, but I'm trying to help him out with the stampings on the gun. The gun is somewhere in the V 680000's range, it has U.S. Property and G.H.D. (Guy H. Drewry) on the top strap, and some P.A.W. markings on the right side plate and underneath the barrel. The P.A.W. underneath the barrel is not on the barrel flat with the serial number, but just a little bit ahead. There are also a few small case "p's" stamped on the gun also. I have no idea what P.A.W. means or the "p" stampings. The gun is chambered in .38 S&W and has a five inch barrel. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks, Chad

Chad;

The "P" is a proof stamping, usually on the bottom of the grip frame or the places where the serial number is found. I'd guess P.A.W. is a property or importer's mark, but someone else may be more sure.

Gday gripper. cannot help with the P.A.W markings. As you are probably aware the 38 S&W or 38/200 chambering was for British and Commonwealth forces in the Victory model, however the absence of British or Commonwealth markings would be very unusual. Maybe this one never got to where she should have gone. Hope someone chimes in with more info.
