Modified deep dish gold medallion N frame grips?
The seller swears up and down that these grips are factory correct. I've never seen any with the extra border cuts. I'm pretty sure someone has 'enhanced' them. Thoughts?

Chris...I haven't owned very many S&Ws with this type of stocks, but I checked the photos of the four I have owned (three T-Locks and one
Second Model), and none of them had stocks with the "enhanced" border.
I would say someone went to a lot of work to add the extra lines of bordering. It looks like it was well done, but I don't believe it was done by S&W.
Why not post the photo on the S&WCA side and ask Roy? I am sure he would give you his expert opinion.

Very interesting thread!
What is the Seller's reputation? Is he a recognized expert?
The reason I ask is that none of us are old enough to have personally made such a purchase way back when they were new.
So how can he "swear up and down" they came that way from the factory?

The extra grooves look very old- maybe as old as the grips, or nearly so.
Engraved Gun?
Presentation piece?
Merely modified?

I'm with Lee on his thoughts. They were done when new and have aged appropriately. Also notice the shoulder has been cut back, probably to meet the frame. The wood under the medallion was also relieved downward making the groove very shallow. Nice work and an interesting pair of custom stocks.

Nice work, but completely unfamiliar to me. Unless the price is exorbitant, I'd buy them just to have them.
For a first or second model .44 HE, right? Is there a number penciled on the back of one panel? If so, you might be able to push that piece of information to see what the original gun was and with what features it left the factory.
