Smile Gun Show Pre-Model 10

I went to a local gun show today and found a two-inch barrel pre-Model 10. Serial number is C1468XX. It shows some use but not abuse. Finish is about 85%. Lock up is tight with no end shake. Bore is excellent with no pitting. It looks to have been carried a lot and shot a little. It's definately a "working gun". When I picked it up I knew I had to have it. I have two "J" frames I really like, an M36 and an M49, but this "K" frame just seems to "fit". I can't explain it??? My question is how common is the two inch barrel on these revolvers?

I have one that would fit your description to a "T". Serial C105XXX. Story is it was left at the shop I frequent, on consignment by the son or grandson of the policeman who carried it for years. He just didn't want it. I couldn't leave without it and probably paid to much for it. It shoots wonderfully and has become one of my favorites. You will like yours even more once you take it out and shoot it.

I just finished giving it a good cleaning and I noticed something odd. The serial number isn't stamped on the barrel flat, just a diamond <>? SCSW says that the barrel marking on the right side of the barrel should be 38 S&W Spec.Ctg. The left side should read Smith & Wesson. My barrel has both scripts on the left side like the 1905 hand ejector model?? The barrel must have been changed at some point in the guns life?? If these guns could talk, What a tale...
