Outa the blue...1959 Mod 48 wi box
A local shop came up with an excellent + 4-screw Model 48 no-dash in the correct K22 Masterpiece box, with old, worn marking pencil serial numbers on the bottom per usual for the time. It has opened and used cleaning tools, tThere is barely detectable muzzle wear from the box, and a slight turn line barely emanating from the bolt stop ramps. It has been fired but not much. The grips are perfect as is the bluing everywhere else. The box has a price tag of $86.50, which is just under $500 in todays dollars. This is out of my usual N-frame line, but how could I pass it up??? Had to cough up $550.00 for it but can't complain. Hope I did OK. Enjoy...

You did more than OK. I would have been all over it too at that price. Congratulations on a great score. Prairie dogs and far-off rodents in your pastures will rue your good fortune.

Beautiful gun at an excellent price. The no dash Mod 48s are very difficult to find and when you do they are pricey.
Nice find.

You really got a good one. Very nice. I like the price tag with the Salt Lake Hardware Co. info.

Nice score! The condition is fantastic and the hardware store sticker tops it off!

FINNMIKE, what is the serial number range of your gun? Also how about some shots of the end of the box. Is there a M.R.F. in white on the end of the box? The early ones had that. All you need now for display is a box of Remington 22 mag ammo to show along with the gun, which is a real cared for beauty. Thanks for sharing.

I will take an image of the box end tomorrow, but there is no MRF anywhere. The SN range is 385,1xx. I'm probably too cheap to shoot it, but the display box is a good idea.

Beautiful 48! When you get tired of it in a week or so I would be interested in re-homing it for you. I keep looking for S&W's from '59, but no luck here. Kyle

Hello Kyle
They are out there but it took me forever to find the one shown that shipped in 1959. It came to me with the Optional .22 LR cylinder fitted to it. Apparently it was sent back to S&W some time in it's life span as the extractor of the .22 Magnum cylinder that the gun came with is Right hand threads and the .22 LR cylinder is Left hand thread design.

FINNMIKE, they are super little guns. Mine is ser. # K360,0xx. A little earlier in ser. # and both should be 1959 guns, the year the 22 mag came out. I was a little tongue in cheek about the Remington 22 mag ammo. It came out in 59, was too hot and Remington recalled it and very little survived. A box of that is about as rare as you can get in modern ammo. You can get the Winchester Super Speed, yellow box with Red lettering fairly easy. You want a box without the childs warning or zip code on the back of the box for it to be correct for your gun. Enjoy.
