Default Pre Model 24 sight question.

This 5 screw pre model Smith, 6 digit sn starting with 118, dates to 1954. My question, is there any way this would be a factory front sight?

Sure could be. You need to get a letter on it.

Yes, it is most likely a factory sight. In fact I have not seen a red ramp on a 1950 Target that was not installed this way.

Its called a 1950 .44 Target (pre-24), and the later ones were produced with the Baughman ramp front sight rather than the patridge front sight.
I have one with the same sight, and its a pleasure to shoot!

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking it was early for a red ramp.

Your red ramp front sight is correct. The red ramp was first offered in 1952. I have three 1950 44 Target revolvers that letter with a red ramp front sight (two with white outline rear sights).
