Default 1952 K-22 Value??

I am looking at a 1952 vintage K-22, ser # 1502**, all matching numbers with a worn gold box. The finish is mostly excellent, has a tight lock up and an excellent bore. I would appreciate an opinion as to the worth of this piece if you were buying.

Thanks

K-22s have been much in demand in recent months. The gun alone is probably a $600-650 item, and the box adds another $100 or so. I have seen them offered above $800, but I don't know if they all sell at those prices.

Even though all 5-screw K-22s are in demand, the ones with lower serial numbers (K and four digits, or the lower five digit range) can be more expensive because of some prewar features that survive into early postwar production. A 5-screw gun in the 1950-56 range like the one you are looking at represents your best opportunity to get a classic .22 at a comparatively reasonable price.

I think David is pretty close, as long as the box is still in decent shape and the grips also number to the gun. $650-$700 seems reasonable.

In my neck of the woods - the price ideas suggested by David and Misty are right on. K22's are marvelous guns - and cheap to shoot.

Good Luck,

Jerry

A 1948 K22 just sold this past weekend at a Gettysburg PA auction for $525 - no box, but superb condition. (Looks like I missed a good deal.)

AND, 7 years later, I just came home this morning with a K-22, 4" in great condition, shipped in 1952, for $595...and glad to even see one!

Prices are all over the place for mid-1950s K-22s. I was following one at an online auction last week that ended up selling for $1400 without a box and only minor wear. Add 20% buyer's premium and shipping and you are looking at over $1700. If I recall correctly, it was around the 150XXX mark.

I think an excellent K-22 is worth closer to $800 to $900, but deals always come up for some. We always seem to read about members paying very low prices for great condition Masterpiece revolvers, but never hear from those who pay too much . . . go figure. Best to set your maximum price and keep looking until one lands in your lap.

My K22 is in excellent shape numbered K 170xxx. It has pointer pup grips as well as a correct set of walnuts. I value it at $700.

Thanks for the info, guys. I was offered an early 5-screw K22 a couple of days ago. 95% gun with no box or accessories. The owner has no clue about value, and wants me to set a price. This gives me some ideas about what's fair for both of us.

I've owned quite a few over the years. 2 years ago I found a very nice one with the original gold box for about 700. I've paid more for lesser ones and no box 10 years ago.

I can't give you an honest value as far as an expert opinion but I would definitely be on it under 1000 dollars if everything condition wise was right if I wanted it .If its not worth a grand now it will be if taken good care of but that's just my opinion and I have been wrong many many times I have been wrong example why sure I'll give you an example .In 1985 I went into a local hardware store they had oil can spouts like we use to use in top of metal oil cans for 10 cent each I thought dang what a deal I bought 20 of them just to give away went to my dads house gave him one and told him about the " deal" he said well thanks son but when was tne last time you bought a " can" of oil .Any one want a oil can spout I have 19 for sale.

You know it's an unwritten rule here that you must post at least 5 photos of any old S&W revolver. The more you brag about it the more photos required. :-)
