Thanks! This is the oldest one (1948?) in the collection and I look forward to shooting it.

I've posted other old M&Ps in the earlier pages of this thread, but since it started I have acquired another one. Here's 400078, from 1922.

VERY nice 5", David. The ultimate M&P barrel length! I think I have it's younger brother, from '26 (no box, though).

For some reason I think of British Service Model (K-200) and Victory revolvers as their own special category rather than considering them M&Ps (or loosely, in the spirit of this thread, "pre-10s"). But of course they are M&Ps, so let me show a couple that I picked up in the last few months.
The first is V524251, a knockabout British .38/200 that had its chambers deepened to take .38 Special. It shoots .38 S&W just fine, though it hits a little to the left of the POA at 10-15 yards. I haven't shot the longer cartridges in it and probably won't. There are no supplementary markings that note its conversion to .38 Special.
The other one, V573116, is another British Service Victory that still chambers only the original .38/200 round. It has not been converted to take .38 Special, and seems almost unfired. The action is tight and precise; at full lockup the cylinder has the bank-vault immobility of the brand C revolvers. An interesting aspect of this one is that it is one of the British revolvers transferred back to the Americans for distribution to Austrian police in the American sector of occupied Austria after WWII. Near the frame knuckle on the left side it carries the circular OSTERREICH POLIZEI stamp around the Austrian eagle.
I think this one may have been reparkerized. The later stamps, including the Austrian Police stamp, have the black finish in the cuts. The stocks, which number to the gun, are a bit more beat up than one might expect from the generally good quality of the finish.
Both of these K-200s are of 1944 production.

I just got this 5" .38 M&P on Monday so I have not fired it yet. Based on the serial number it was made around 1950...

Here's mine. WWII export to New Zealand, has NZ numbers stamped on the backstrap. Barrel shortened slightly, also the hammer tab was broken off in a slight accident long ago. Now DA only. Still looking for a correct replacement hammer and block.

I've got a couple.
Made in 1947/48
Looks like 55/56 for this one.
I put this one on layaway yesterday. Another 55/56, with a 2" barrel, diamond magna grips, instruction sheet, and box (numbered to the gun). There is a slight turn line, and no other wear that I can see. A very poor cell phone picture.
Normally I don't care for 2" barrel guns, but this one was too nice to pass up.

Vintage 1920-21 4th Change
I've posted this on the forum before, but beauty bears repeating. Insides are even better. Grips number to gun.
10/22.

This one followed me home today. Best I can tell, it's somewhere between 1920 and 1922. Can anyone narrow that down? The serial number is 303xxx.

photoman, I have 2996xx, that was shipped from Smith in June of 1919 according to Roy Jinks. At the rate these were being made, you could be 1919 also. Bob

I sort of like any snubnose .38 on the K frame, but I have a particular affection for the postwar long-action specimens. Something about the round top front sight and hammer profile really say "classic" to me. My 1947 snub is way back there in post 29 on this thread.

cm289, that's a nice one. The serial number puts it in 1915, maybe 1916.
Daniel, I like that snubby in your picasa album.

My New "Old" Pre-Model 10
After looking at the previous guns, I know this ain't so pretty. But, here it is.
Looks better in person. Didn't have any indirect light; had to use the flash. And the danged flash shows every bit of character.
Yep, at some point in the past, someone bobbed the hammer. Previous owner said the original grips had been sanded down when he got it and he lost them. Other than that, it's very nice. Doesn't appear to have been re-blued. Slight patina on the backstrap. Some holster wear on the high points. Bore is clean and lockup is tight.
This is going to be a shooter and worked into my carry rotation after I push some rounds downrange. Anyone have any suggestions on where I can get some period diamond grips?

I really like Mr. Wilson's comments. That being said, hear is my favorite M&P (pre-10), mostly because it is a birth year gun that happens to be a nice old .38 special.

Via the 3rd Edition of the SC of S&W, the serial numbers C1-C223998 are given dates of manufacture as being 1948-1953.

1956 four screw original nickel. Grips are from a 1953 K22 buy.
I am liking the semi bobbed hammer.

I have a few but this is the only one I have pics of at this time. It
is a U S Navy marked Victory model. Not mint but a good plinker.

I've got a few chambered in 38 special and a few more in 32-20, but I really like this pre-war snubby.

Here is a Pre-war .38 M&P HE from 1917-1918. I picked it up last Sunday at a local show. It's a six inch, with diamond magnas. I have several Pre-war M&P's but this is the earliest one so far. I really like the look of it. I plan to load up some .38 Special round nose lead bullets and see how it shoots.

"Here is a Pre-war .38 M&P HE from 1917-1918."
If you don't mind, what is the approximate serial number on this one? I have one that is quite similar and I think it is in that time range but am not sure.
Thanks.
