DOB for old Combat Masterpiece
I've got an old 5-screw Combat Masterpiece with tapered barrel and the kinda funny looking "hook" hammer which has light checkering on the top.
5 digit serial is K 9195x. Can someone confirm the likely DOB? I'm thinking 1950, maybe earlier.
For that matter, what is the earliest date and serial number for a true Combat Masterpiece?
Thanks.

I dont have the book handy, but I was thinking (dangerous I know) the CM came out in 1952.

The serial number you cited would indeed be from 1950. It's my understanding the Combat Masterpiece was first announced in early 1950 and was available by mid year. I have K101707 from January 1951. I remember hearing of CMs with SNs in the K80000 range, maybe even K70000. Those would be (generally speaking) mid-1950 serial numbers.
Pictures?

SCSW shows the introduction of the Combat Masterpiece as 1949, and serial numbers beginning in the low K73000s for that year. There is a high probability there were CMs in the K70000s.

I have K97481 and it shipped in November of 1950. I would say that your guess of 1950 is correct.

Vekbeau, welcome to the forum. 3K89299 would have shipped in 1973.

My appologies for taking a few days to respond, I have been without highspeed for a few days.
DCWilson- Thank you for the information, and the welcome.
gjamison- It is a .38, it has some scratches and aftermarket hogue grips but when I shot it the other day it shot one hole when I did my part at 8 yards using winchester 130gr ball.
zywina- I will take some pics and post.
So that I don't continue to hijack this thread I posted the pics in the 1961-1980 thread.
