The gun letters engraved!
Some of you may remember my post about this gun one of my buddies came up with. Well, the letter is back and the gun was factory engraved! The fact it was shipped to Lyman Sight Company explains the unusual front sight I guess. Hard to believe this gun has been floating around for 108 years without getting is worse shape than it is. It is mechanically fine and you can shoot it. I guess you never know what you will find.
I had to scrub his name off the letter and I am not a computer whiz so it might be a little hard to read, but it says it came with Style 3 engraving.

Excellent revolver and history. The ways in which that gun is interesting are numerous -- the early model, the engraving, the semi-target sight.
It's only speculation, but I can come up with a couple of ideas about why Lyman ordered the gun:
(1) Retirement gift for a member of the corporate command staff.
(2) Good looking salesman's sample to show how a stock service revolver could be made more accurate with a simple modification to the front sight.
Congratulations to your friend. He has a keeper!

I remember the original post--that's a really neat old revolver with a great history.

Your friend has a nice gun - worn, but factory engraved. It needs an
extractor knob; that would help it quite a bit.

I wish I did! That one is Terry's. If he doesn't come get it soon though I will have to say he abandoned it and seize it for storage fees. ;^P
