K-22 Letter
Exactly 20 days from the day I sent for the letter it came back. Wow, the last one took 3 months. My K22 was shipped on 9-23-1947, my 5th birthday. 1/10" Patridge front sight on the narrow rib. Went to a company called Marshall Wells in Portland, Oregon. Research turned up the fact that the warehouse was converted to condo's in the 70's.
Revolver is still as shipped and a good 98%+++. Now, I still need a nice, early thin bbl. K38 to go with it. Big Larry

Roy has raised the price on his authentication letters within the past year or so, hasn't he? That could account for his lightened workload on that score.
Larry, that is a beautiful K-22. Love those one-line address 5-screws. Mine's 1947.

Big Larry.
Very nice. I like it. I like all K22's. There are days I think I should refine what I collect in S&W's. I think 1 line address K22's is a good niche. There is a short time period when they were made, with some variations in how they were made. I put 7 of them in a display case at the last Yuma gunshow. I had only 1-2 dealers/customers look close enough to see what they were. Lots of folks at gun shows are not as diligent/anal as those of us who specialize.
I think 4 screw guns are unique to collect, they have some good variations.
I also like N frames that have an S in the serial number. Have been selling off the ones with N in the serial number.
Haven't seen many older S&W's that I wouldn't buy if the price was good.
Congratulations on your find.

Hi Bill. A dealer brought many minty early S&W's to the Reno show last summer. Lots of pre 27's and 29's, and they were selling like hotcakes. The dealer next to him, had this lovely K22 and the box and no one was paying attention to it. I saw it out of the corner of my eye and asked to look at it. Wow, not only a one line address but with the large ejector rod knob with cut in the bbl. Best he would do was $825, so I bought it. I am not a collector of these, but in my quest for a shooter K22, I wound up with this 1947 and a even nicer 1953 K22. Now I cannot shoot either. The only other Smith I would really like to have is that early K38 to match either of my 22's. Slim bbl. model. BTW, who is running that Yuma show now. We used to do that show many years ago when it was over by the Padres training camp. Big Larry

Very nice Larry. I have one that shipped 27 days later but does not have the large ejector and cutout and a couple earlier that do.
I'll see what I have along the lines of a K38 in my "stuff".

Larry.
The old Kiwanis gunshow at the Convention center finally died out. They got a little to outspoken on their anti gun editiorials in the local paper. The current gun show has been at the County Fairgrounds for many years and is run by a Mr. Murphy from Idaho. He puts on 3 a year here at Yuma and others a couple places around ARIZONA.
I see you are "Old Corps" to me. I started out in US Navy Reserves and after one cruise on a Tin Can, I asked if I could go active duty. They said sure, so I went and found a Marine recruiter and went active duty. I am not and was never intended to be a sailor!! USMC was the best thing that ever happened to me. I was given some valuable training and am still making a good living 40 plus years later. I still work for them.
Thank you for your service.

Mr. Murphy is a very good friend of mine for many years. I bought a Springfield target rifle from him many years ago for $650. I sold that very rifle a year later for $10,000. Turned out to be a super rare rifle. I never told him.
I did boot in SDO in 1961 on the deferred entrance program. I was 17 and still in high school when my Dad, a former 20 year man, signed for me in August of 1960. I did 8 years in the reserve. Highlight of my USMC time was the rifle range at the old Camp Matthews and with the Garand. Phased out just after my active duty.Closed Matthews soon after as well.
My Dad did his Boot at Paris Island in 1936. The real "old Corps". Semper Fi, Big Larry
