Default Grandpa's Model 10

My father recently gave me this revolver he got from his dad (my granddad) before he died. In the 1940s and 50s they lived in Mississippi and every Fourth of July they'd get out the gun and fire rounds in the air.

it looks brand new and it was purchased in the 50s. I even had the original sales receipt but I can't find it right now.

I'm curious to know what it might be worth ... although I'd never ever sell it, of course. I'll post a SN later, when I get a chance.

it appears to be in excellent condition. The complete model number (including any number after a dash) and serial number will better date and help value the gun.

I would guess a Model 10-5 (beginning 1962) based on the front sight and the diamond grips (changed in 1968). However, it appears to have a screw in front of the trigger guard which would make it a 4 screw. It may be a transition gun with features of of the Model 10-5 on an older frame.

Post a picture of the front of the trigger guard and the serial number and the complete model number. also the end of the box if it still has the model information.

I hope you no longer fire the gun into the air, ever.

Welcome to the forum.
That serial number puts it at about 1961 or 1962.
You asked about value, I can't really say, but my Grampa's guns are all worth about the same......Priceless.

Neat gun.
Is there a model number stamped in the yoke cut?

You have a very scarce Instruction Sheet- the one with the red ink.

The ramp sight and Modified Magnas go back at least as far as the 1952 catalog.

It just says "Model 10" (no hyphen) and "89391"

That's kind of like a slice of collector heaven -- gun, brush, box, docs and provenance, with the added fillip that the provenance is one's own grandfather. A fine piece and a family connection to boot -- priceless. Congratulations.

But to take your valuation question seriously, if that package went up on Gunbroker I'd expect the winning bid to be north of $500, maybe even $600. It's a very nice '60s-era set. By itself the gun is probably a $300-350 item. (California disclaimer: I live in a realistic gun price distortion field.)

I can tell you that S/N C459396, also a 4 screw Mod. 10 (no dash), was shipped Oct 1959. So, the est of 60-61 is very accurate. Sure wish mine was in that good a condition.

When I told my dad that it was dated on '61 he was a little baffled because he could have sworn he shot that gun at least a couple of years before then. Maybe grandpa had another gun.
