Another Victory For the data base
I just got home with another Victory model . It's marked U.S Property G.H.D. on the top strap and has a 4" bbl. in .38 spec. the serial is V 612799 .It's missing the lanyard ring and has a cracked right grip but I've already got both original N.I.B.parts coming from Gun Brocker for A very good price. This one came from the same lot as my sideplate red marked Navy that I posted a few years ago . Both came from a local police dept. and have been in storage for 50 plus years.

How refreshing to hear that all PDs have not become totally politically correct and will actually sell a surplus/seized/whatever handgun to a citizen rather than paying someone to melt it down into scrap!
You didn't ask, but your gun shipped in the area of late Spring/early Summer, 1944. (Wouldn't it be the Holy Grail to find a gun that shipped June 6, 1944?!) Most produced during this period had "P" proofs at the upper left frame, rear face of the cylinder and the underside of the barrel-- does yours?
Thanks for the submission to the database!

Congrats! Close serial number were shipped in mid 1944. You say "this one came from the same lot..." I'm not sure what you mean by that. Pls. explain the reasoning. Have you lettered your "Red Navy?" (As you probably know, the red Navy stamp is not a factory stamp, but was added by the Navy, assuming it is a genuine Navy stamping and not a later dealer stamping to enhance value.) Thanks, Ed.

ED sorry for the mix up what I ment was that the gun came from the same lot that my local gun shop bid on and won from the Southington,Ct. police dept. In the lot was several victory's two Krag rifle's and a s&w 1917 that all the marking's were ground off the butt.the gun's were in the police locker for at least 50 year's or more.My red navy victory should already be in the data base. But I'll relist it now VICTORY serial V 333350 4" BBL. .38 spec.top strap marked U.S.PROPERTY G.H.D.
PROPERTY OF
U.S. NAVY
stamped on left side of the frame under the cylinder latch with stamping filled in with red paint all part's but grip's matching.I'll try to add a picture.p/s no I stil have not lettered it I'll have to get off my butt and letter a few of my smith's one of these day's
